Introduction
The Pharmacy Informatics rotation consists of a four-week rotation designed to develop the clinical pharmacist's
knowledge and skills in applying computer skills to pharmaceutical care. The rotation is not designed for the advanced
computer user, but for students who wish to update or refine their computer/technology/software skills. In addition
to working with word processors, spreadsheets, databases, presentation and video-editing programs, website design, the
student will also be exposed to CPOE (Computerized Prescriber Order Entry) and other topics relating to Pharmacy Informatics.
A project is required to be completed during the rotation that incorporates or applies newly acquired skills into pharmacotherapy,
pharmaceutical education and other pharmacy-based applications.
Goal
To have the student become acquainted with Pharmacy Informatics and perhaps proficient in advanced word processing, spreadsheet,
database, presentation, video-editing and Web-based applications.
Objectives
After completing the rotation, the student shall be able to do accomplish several of the following depending on the student's
interests and availability of projects:
1. merge a spreadsheet or other file with a document
2. design and use a spreadsheet to collect clinical data
3. design and use a database program to collect and organize clinical data
4. capture, edit, and make a movie from digital video
5. prepare a website for the Internet
6. complete a computer-related project
7. utilize voice recognition software
8. discuss the following topics:
a. CPOE
b. Automation in pharmacy practice
c. e-prescribing
d. electronic medical record

Documentation
The student will document his/her input/output for the rotation through a weekly journal entry. This will be handed
in to the instructor at the end of each week during the rotation and returned to the student by the following Monday afternoon.

The final grade for the rotation will be based on:
Documentation notebook
Preparation for discussions
Project oral presentation
Completed project(s)
